Andrew and Jenny live in a Fulham townhouse in SW London. They chose to buy Blenheim artificial grass for their back garden last summer. One year down the line we thought we’d ask them how they’ve fared.
Dayco: Hi Andrew, Jenny. Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions about our artificial grass! Jenny, you were keen and Andrew was not. Can you tell us why you wanted to go for the artificial grass option?
Jenny: Yes of course. We have two kids, Paul,9, and Molly, 7. They use the back garden more than anyone, as a play area. Jeremy is a keen footballer and his friends are often here practising out the back. We had a typically wet summer last year and it wasn’t long before the grass in the back garden had been kicked away and all we were left with was a muddy mess. When Jeremy came in from playing, we called him Swampy!
What’s more, we’d recently refurbished the house and the entire back wall looking out onto the garden was glass. But we didn’t have much of a view… It seemed a shame.
Andrew: I was less keen it’s true. I was worried that artificial grass would look fake and tacky…
Dayco: And did it?
Andrew: Surprisingly not. The four tone blended colours gave the artificial grass a really realistic look – I was surprised. And I have to admit that I’m partly responsible for the swamp as I like a bit of a kick about with the boys…
Jenny: And you’re not much of a gardener are you?
Andrew (laughs): No. It’s true! I bought an expensive state-of-the-art lawn mower that I only used once. Tough work, lawn mowing… And not very interesting. I was secretly glad when all the real grass had disappeared!
Dayco: What about you, Paul? What do you think of having artificial grass?
Paul: It’s cool. All the professional footie teams play on artificial grass and it means you can dive for the ball when you’re goalie and not hurt yourself. That much.
Dayco: And you Molly? What do you think of the artificial grass?
Molly: It looks really nice and green now and I can go to the playhouse in my flipflops and clean feet.
Dayco: You all sound like happy customers a year down the line! Are you?
Jenny: Oh yes. This summer’s been really hot and we’ve been outside nearly all the time. The grass is so hard wearing and comfortable. We can lay blankets on it, for picnics or just a bit of sunbathing with a book. I love it. And finally the outside of the house looks as good as the inside. When the kids haven’t left all their stuff lying around of course!
